• Organic Turkish Towels

    Crafted with a Conscience

The Aegean region of Turkey is home to the most luxurious cotton.

Cotton is beautiful, and we wish to keep it that way. We make towels with Organic Cotton grown by the Aegean sea. We dye our product with vegetables, instead of toxic chemicals.

We want to make a change to help clean up the dirty cotton industry. We only adopt sustainable practices and produce all our materials without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or synthetic fertilizers.

Exceptional raw materials

The cotton grown in the Aegean region has long been the raw material of choice for weavers all over Turkey, so it was only natural that our journey to find the highest quality textiles began here.

The unique climate of the Mediterranean provides the ideal conditions to grow a cotton flower that’s soft and strong, with a natural white color that is brighter than any other cotton flower.

Where it all began

It began with hot steam, black soap, and the scent of eucalyptus. Across the Ottoman empire, soft voices chattered within the low-lit marble chambers of great bath houses known as Hammams. Much more than a spa or sauna, Hammam offered bathers of the 7th century and beyond relaxation, socialization, a place where everyday problems were washed away with the dust. Once they emerged from the hot steam water, body and mind were purified, and they welcomed the soft protection of a Pestemal or Turkish towel.

Hammam is, without a doubt, the cradle of ritual experience, and just as the Hammam had a central role in Turkish culture, so too was the Turkish towel.

The Story of Ayin

From the Aegean to you

The peshtemals of the Ottoman empire were handwoven from Turkish cotton on a loom, just as Ayin’s towels are still made today. Our master weaver began producing handloom towels in the early 1930's in a small Turkish village. He travelled all around Anatolia to sell his beautiful towels and fabrics, collecting inspiration from every village he passed through.

Today, his family continue his work, using the same traditional looming technique and the finest Aegean cotton. Cooled by the wind and bathed in the Mediterranean sun, the rich soil of the Aegean region and its ideal climate, provide fertile ground to grow the highest-quality cotton for the most absorbent, yet lightweight towels.

Five percent for the bees

90% of all cotton production on Earth requires heavy use of pesticides, insecticides, and herbicides, which have various impacts on bees, one of them, death. The use of pesticides et al. have already added seven species to the endangered species list with no signs of a slowdown.

Pesticides, like Asbestos, causes harm to us all, and it is time we take action. No one should be in a situation where they risk their lives to provide for others.

We need to make a change, and it’s up to all of us to help. 5% for the bees is our commitment to do our best for the survival of one of Earth’s hardest working species. We donate 5% of our profits to help causes that improve the working conditions of the bees.
